Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is Back for 2023

The reveal of the new SRT Hellcat took place at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac on the first day of the three-day Dodge Speed Week, which featured announcements on all kinds of new Dodge products. The Dodge Durango SRT has some spectacular numbers that back up its performance, as it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds or less and can do a quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds while reaching a top speed of 180 mph. All of this means that the Dodge Durango SRT remains a Dodge at its core, as along with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, there are several key engine features that make this SUV genuinely unique, which we will cover down below.

In addition to the massive engine that the Durango SRT provides, several components are available that make the engine one of the best in the class. For example, you will find a dedicated cooling circuit for the charge air coolers integrated into the supercharger housing. This includes the pump, coolant reservoir, and heat exchanger, designed to keep the air flowing in the engine colder than 140 degrees Fahrenheit. You will also find twin-screw rotors in the supercharger set close to minimize air leakage and provide maximum performance. In addition, the engine block is cast in iron with water jackets between the cylinders for optimal cooling, a forged-steel crankshaft, high-strength forged-alloy pistons. piston-cooling oil jets, and heat-treated aluminum-alloy cylinder heads. Best of all, the exhaust system has been tuned to deliver a throaty Dodge DNA sound, and the engine combines with a Torqueflite eight-speed automatic transmission with a steering-wheel-mounted paddle for manual-style shifting and comes with seven drive modes including Auto, Sport, Track, Snow, Tow, Eco and Valet.

The Durango SRT is a Dodge through and through, as it comes with bold styling, including a front fascia with a chin splitter, engine oil cooler duct, air guide, and snorkel for cold air induction. The outside of the Durango SRT also features LED low/high headlamps, LED daytime running lamp signatures, and a sculpted hood and grille. When you look inside the cockpit, you will find something incredibly upscale and filled with advanced tech, as you will find a 10.1-inch touchscreen and red accented gauges that pair nicely with the heated and ventilated Nappa leather with suede front seats that have the SRT logo. With the Uconnect touchscreen, drivers can take control of their behind-the-wheel experience as you can control things like shift speeds, steering, paddle shifters, traction, all-wheel drive, and suspension. Launch Control can be easily accessed via a toggle switch in the cockpit. It manages tire slip while launching the vehicle and allows the driver to achieve consistent straight-line acceleration. Then there is Launch Assist which has wheel speed sensors for driveline-damaging wheel hop at launch and n milliseconds while adjusting engine torque to help regain a full grip.

For those who want to customize their Durango SRT, there will be a lot of customization available thanks to the Plus and Premium packages. The Plus package provides drivers and passengers with high-performance Laguna leather seats, a trailer tow group, a power sunroof, and adaptive and advanced safety features. Meanwhile, the Premium package adds to what you can get with the Plus package with items such as red seatbelts, a leather-wrapped instrument panel, carbon fiber interior accents, and a Harman Kardon 19-speaker audio system.
