2020 Jeep Cherokee vs Ford Escape

With so many SUVs on the market these days, it can be challenging to know which one is the best for you. Fortunately, Jeep and Ford are here to make things a little more comfortable with new versions of their signature Cherokee and Escape models. Both of these vehicles are fantastic as they come with capable engine options, a bevy of features, and a ton of safety options to keep you and your cargo secure. Seeing as how most of you are likely only to buy one, we have set these two popular SUVs against each other to see which one is truly the best. Read on to see which one comes out on top!

2020 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

Coming standard on the Jeep Cherokee is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. If this is not enough power for you, you can opt for a 3.2-liter V6 with 271 horsepower or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 270 horsepower. All of these engines connect nicely with the nine-speed automatic transmission, which delivers a smooth ride. The best part is that all three engines are available with four-wheel-drive, which is perfect for those bad weather situations. If you're looking to tow something, the Cherokee has some impressive numbers as the four-cylinder engines can haul 4,000 pounds while the V6 can pull 4,500.

2020 Ford Escape Power & Handling

On the first three trims, the Ford Escape comes with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost with 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. The engine is exceptionally lackluster as ti doesn't feel lively or refined. The SE Sport has a standard 2.5-liter hybrid with 200 horsepower, which doesn't lack power, though we wish it had paddle shifters for better acceleration. The best engine of the lot is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost with 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, which can hit the highway and go with little effort. This engine is available on two trims, the SEL and the Titanium. Each option connects to an eight-speed automatic transmission. None of these engines is as good as the Cherokees V6 or the 2.0-liter turbocharged in terms of horsepower, and if you're looking for towing ability, you're better off with the Jeep Cherokee.

2020 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

The 2020 Jeep Cherokee comes with multiple trim levels that have a plethora of features and options. The base Latitude comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a display for the rearview camera. On the safety front, the Latitude comes with all the latest safety systems, including hill-start assist with a start and stop as well as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection. Also coming standard is air conditioning, a six-way adjustable driver's seat covered in cloth, and keyless entry. If you opt for the all-wheel-drive Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction-management system also comes standard. The higher you climb trim levels, the more features come available. The Limited trim comes with a larger Uconnect touchscreen, power-adjustable driver and passenger seats, and leather upholstery. If you want more luxury options, the Overland comes with navigation, an upgraded audio system, and gorgeous interior trim. With the top-level Trailhawk, you get a ton of off-road related options, including underbody skid plates, a more aggressive all-wheel-drive system, and an upgraded suspension.

2020 Ford Escape Features & Design

Coming standard on all trims of the 2020 Ford Escape is the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine with the smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine provides you with five available drive modes that are great for driving in adverse weather conditions and sand. Additionally, all trims of the Escape get a Ford's Co-Pilot 360, which comes with a bevy of driver-assist features. Other features include LED taillights, a second-row sliding seat, two smart USB charge ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher-level trims of the Escape add to this list with a power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, and navigation. Higher trims also get you more safety features, including adaptive cruise control with stop and go and parking assist. These higher trims also come with leather seats, chrome exhaust tips, USB charging ports, a B and O premium sound system, leather-trimmed sport contoured bucket seats, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. We admit that these are some impressive features, but there isn't enough here to compete with the 2020 Cherokee.

Conclusion:

While both of these SUVs certainly have their merits. We are going to give the victory to the 2020 Jeep Cherokee! The engine options are more powerful and provide you with impressive towing numbers, while the several trim levels allow for more features and options. If you're interested in the Cherokee, we encourage you to stop by the dealership and schedule a test drive with one of our representatives!
