2019 Ram 1500 vs 2019 Ford F-150 near Atascosa, TX

Finding a truck that's suitable for your professional and personal life is an important choice to ensure your investment lasts your needs for years to come.  The competition of the light-duty pickup is close, constantly inspiring a race of innovation and heightening power.  The Ford F-150 has been a consistently popular pick of the industry, but Ram has raised a contender to challenge with its remodeled 2019 Ram 1500.  Reviews and critic-acclaims of this all-new design are resoundingly positive, and we're interested in seeing how this new Ram stacks up against its fiercest foe!

2019 Ram 1500 Power & Handling

Ram prides itself on its simple yet very effective selection of three universally available powertrains.  Standard equipment under the hood is the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar providing you with best-in-class 4x4 19/24 miles per gallon fuel efficiency (20/25 mpg while 4x2) and V6 horsepower (305 hp).  It also comes with standard eTorque, a new mild-hybrid system that enhances the engine's output with 90 extra lb-ft of torque atop the engine's standard 269 lb-ft to tow 7,730 pounds.  The next level up is the 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine with optional eTorque.  On its own this 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque powertrain can tow 11,610 pounds with 15/22 mpg.  eTorque ramps up performance and efficiency with 130 extra lb-ft of torque to maximize outputs to 12,750 pounds of towing force and 17/23 mpg for best-in-class V6 and V8 mileage range.  All engine options come paired to a class-exclusive eight-speed shiftable automatic TorqueFlite transmission in choice of either rear- or all-wheel drive.

2019 Ford F-150 Power & Handling

Ford locks its higher performance powertrains behind trim limited selectability, providing you a selection of six trims that they've engineered in a one-glove-fits-all concept.  The base trim is built with the 3.3-liter V6, generating 290 horsepower and a poor 18/23 4x4 mpg.  It comparatively tows up to 7,700 pounds.  This engine comes paired only to a six-speed automatic transmission, with all other powertrains provided with a ten-speed automatic instead.  To compare to the Ram's 5.7-liter V8 tow numbers, you'll have to move up two more engine options to the Ford's 5.0-liter HEMI for 395 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, but for this V8 to be standard in your truck, you'd need to dish out $50,000.  Want to compete with the Ram's maximum towing capacity?  That power is found in the EcoBooosted 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 powertrain for 450 horsepower, 510 lb-ft of torque, and a decimated 15/18 mpg.  This engine is only standard within the top-tier Limited, priced at over $65,000.

2019 Ram 1500 Features & Design

The new remodeling of the 2019 Ram 1500 has been claiming well deserved notice in the truck world for its great power and revolutionary design elements.  Ram is separating its 1500 from the entire concept of the truck being a utilitarian-only purpose vehicle, and the brand's work has been highly praised--even winning Motor Trend's 2019 Truck of the Year award.  Raising the standards of what a modern pickup should be, the six trims that make up the 1500 lineup all possess a unique exterior look with personalized grille and headlamp designs.  Each are provided in your choice of three cab sizes and three bed sizes so you have a truck that suits all your lifestyle needs.  The Crew Cab has gained four more inches within its cabin's length to give passengers a greater rear-seat comfort and superior legroom.  You'll also find enhanced interior storage--the best-in-class volume, in fact--provided under seat, behind back row, and in the remodeled 1.5 cubic-foot center console bin that can hold even a 15-inch laptop.  This is a huge business advantage when you consider the Ram also provides optional Wifi Hotspot capabilities, Bluetooth, and wireless smartphone integration with its nested 5, 8.4, or largest-in-class 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen media center at center dash.  You'll also find standard dual-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, power-adjustable accessories, durable vinyl upholstery, and push-button start, making the new 2019 1500 a titan of modern technology and convenience.

2019 Ford F-150 Features & Design

Last remodeled in 2015, the F-150 has relied upon its power to be its primary selling point.  It sticks to the belief that the truck is purely a workhorse vehicle as it heads into the new model year with the revamped Ram 1500 (and new Chevy Silverado, but that's a comparison for another day).  The F-150 supplies you with similar options of cab and bed designs, along with the same number of trims, giving you a comparative selection of body designs to suit your needs professionally and personally.  Ford also offers up to six passenger seating, but its rear-row has less legroom and less overall width, as the F-150 is designed with a narrower frame compared to the 1500.  You'll find standard manual single-zone air conditioning, power accessories, cloth upholstery, and a 4.2-inch radio display screen.  Things are certainly more utilitarian minded without the remote keyless entry, manual locks, and only Bluetooth equipped, but storage is fair with under seat and behind rear-seat areas to keep your tools.  You won't find similar wireless smartphone apps integration nor cruise control until another trim up.

People are looking to trucks to accomplish more than simply business, they're hoping for more utility and better overall functionality that matches all assets of their lifestyle.  The redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 is exemplary of what a modern pickup should aspire to be, with plenty of hauling and towing capabilities hand in hand with exceptional interior comfort and business savvy technology.  Its power is more accessible than the Ford's, with its highest powertrain available even in the Ram's base trim, and its efficiency lends to a lifetime of savings at the pump, too!  Think this is the truck for you?  Check out our Ram 1500 vehicle review for more information on the features, safety equipment, and other systems built into the all new 2019 1500, as well as a couple other big haulers on our lot.
